Parent Companies

Rising Day Media (RDM) is owned by Jim Compton and is the parent company and major shareholder of Wabung Anung Films. RDM allows Wabung Anung to trigger Manitoba tax credits, which are the best in the country if not the world. Collaborations have allowed Wabung Anung to produce content in Manitoba and Ontario, such as Amplify, a 13-part series that explores the subconscious world of Indigenous songwriters and walks the viewer through their creative processes. Other productions in that vein include, The Fourth Wall (currently in development), which takes a deep dive into the creative processes involved in Indigenous theatre from the page to the stage.

RDM is also the corporate arm that allows Indigenous First Nations the screen to share their stories. RDM has produced videos for Dakota Tiwahe Services (DTS) which examines DTS’s transition to traditional self-government within the CFS system; 13 videos for YellowQuill College highlighting its Indigenous inspired programming; and Thunderbird Rising, a documentary for the Aboriginal Council on how they envision self-government and self-determination unfolding within the city of Winnipeg, guided by the principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People. Its aim echoes the undying will of the Elders who say, “Yet there is hope, in everything we are doing and everything we are trying to do.”
